If you’ve been following The Beauty Type for a little while you’ll know that I go through stages of writing about loads of beauty then nothing. I find Christmas and the New Year a great time to write about beauty and makeup because quite honestly, it’s when I get the most products and it gives me more time to reflect. I got some beautiful Christmas gifts this year but I wanted to show my favourite makeup products of the year just gone first. It’s always nice to see what I loved this year compared to last year (2018)! You can also see 2017’s best in beauty here.
Face
For base this year I’ve been embracing heavier foundations. I used to think they were really bad for my skin but they’re only heavy and clogging when I don’t remove them well. As I’ve embraced a good skincare regime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid has been a firm favourite this year. I love how this applies and lasts all day. I’ve been using Collection Lasting Perfection concealer again this year, I never seem to use much else when it comes to concealer because this is a firm favourite.
To set the base, I’ve been using MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural again as I love how this sets any foundation and also compliments the new addition to my collection Nars Sheer Glow. While this is new to my collection, it provides a really lovely look to the skin and works well in the summer. I was lucky enough to get my shade bang on by ordering online and am basically treating this as my summer foundation as it’s lightweight compared to studio fix.
You’ll also find that the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter comes out for special occasions or when I need an extra pep. This is probably my priciest purchase ever when it comes to one product but it’s so worth it. It really does make you feel like a million dollars and the glow it can provide especially under the eyes/highlight is amazing. I love wearing this for black tie events for a glow.
Hoola still makes an every day appearance and I can’t see that ever changing but the newest cheek product is MAC Pinched, such a beautiful pink that really adds a pop to the cheeks.

Eyes
Onto eyeshadows and products and I’ve had a few new additions to my collection this year which has been exciting. I restocked my everyday MAC palette which has always contained the same colours but they work no matter the occasion. I got Retrospeck back which has already hit pan again (well loved!) and I am such a fan of these colours, I wear these nearly every day.
However, my biggest eyeshadow love came from Huda Beauty with the Topaz Obsessions palette. This beauty has introduced me to more warmth on my eyes and these are seriously pigmented, I now want to collect more from Huda. I’ve not stopped using my Naked palettes entirely but they have taken a back seat compared to last year.
I’m still loving a Maybelline liquid liner (any) and Benefit Mascaras are still a firm favourite. This year I’ve had roller lash and they’re real on the go but I’ve just added Bad Gal Bang to the mix so expect a review on that soon. I also use a lot of Benefit brow products namely Brow Zings but I am going to make sure in 2020 I get my HD Brows done again regularly as I really miss a perfect brow.
MISC.
Lipsticks have been a mix of Maybelline Colour Stay Ink Crayons which are beautiful for lasting colour but my trust MAC Angel has still been a firm favourite. I have also just purchased my first Bobbi Brown lipstick which is beautiful after seeing MorganAlice on Instagram wearing it. 2020 will be the year I try a few more brands as I’ve been a bit stuck in my ways this year as my beauty side has taken a small back seat.
I have been loving my wedding perfume Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt. It’s one of their basic fragrances but I blooming love how fresh and clean it is and it always takes me back to our wedding day.
I am going to be doing a full skincare post on what I’ve loved this last year/month so look out for that too on the full low down on what I’ve loved skincare wise as that’s a whole post in itself!
