[Ad – gifted] Cambridgeshire always holds a special place in my heart as I spent most of my teenage years there. It’s where my journalism education began and so it always is exciting to try new places in the area. The Pear Tree Inn, Hildersham is a wonderful self-catering style accommodation situated in the grounds of the Pear and Olive Scratch Kitchen.
We were kindly invited down to the Pear Tree Inn as a gifted stay which was frankly a wonderful treat and we thoroughly enjoyed. I have reviewed the food aspect of the restaurant on Inside Cambridge but I wanted to showcase the wonderful accommodation and bungalow we stayed in as it is the perfect spot to stay in for a trip to the city or surrounding area.
The Pear Tree Inn is situated in the picturesque village of Hildersham which is 7 miles from Cambridge city centre and is close to Linton, Saffron Walden, Duxford Air museum and Newmarket races. The Inn & Restaurant has only been open a short while (just over a year) and has transformed the old pub into a fine dining restaurant and boutique rooms.
There are two rooms on site, one of which is the ‘bungalow‘ which we stayed in. The second being above the inn itself and containing three bedrooms. The self catering private bungalow offers a beautiful apartment style option. It has one king size bed and a day bed. The day bed doubles as a sofa and contains a dining table, arm chairs and a whole kitchen. The kitchen as pictured has EVERYTHING you need for a stay. There’s a fridge, washing machine, coffee machine and sink.
The main bedroom contains a small ensuite shower which is perfect for a few nights away and includes all the usual toiletries.
Little touches that make the stay special…
Within the room as standard you are given lots of extra treats. To start there was a wonderful fresh bread basket which was a gorgeous loaf of sourdough which quite honestly tasted heavenly. There were also fresh scones from the kitchen and a jar of jam made by a resident in the village. It was such a nice touch and after a little journey, a scone and jam was well received. Dan was in his element as most uniquely there is a decanter of port available complimentary which adds some real glamour to your stay – perfect before or after your meal at the restaurant next door.
Fresh milk was delivered to our door and went in the fridge so Dan could have a coffee in the morning too which was useful for his early start. It was nice to have fresh milk rather than a creamer sachet.
As it is a self-catering stay, the breakfast offering is provided in the form of the bread, scones, waffles or fruit. Whilst it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it is perfect for anyone staying as a day trip as you could easily have toast with the jam, a waffle or even fruit. You would not go hungry.
A luxurious bed and sound sleep.
As we had experienced a meal at the restaurant, we were definitely ready for a cosy sleep as Dan actually had work the next day with a 7am drive. The bungalow was super quiet and as we settled down for the night, the bed was huge, comfortable and had the most luxurious sheets. It was one of those fluffy cosy duvets where you feel like you’re in a real cocoon. It was so cosy and we slept straight through the night.
Even when Dan left, I managed to squeeze in a bit more of a lie in before getting ready for the day. You have loads of privacy in the bungalow as it’s set back from the main street. You cannot fault the quality of anything here, the attention to detail has been really thought out and would be a perfect hub for family or a city break to Cambridge.
Why you should visit The Pear Tree Inn
The Pear Tree is quite simply everything you want it to be. The little touches, added extras and hospitality is excellent and sets itself apart from staying in a hotel or b&b. Obviously you have the option of the restaurant on hand but even the hospitality from Cat and Gael make your stay perfect. It’s all detailed for you in your welcome pack but if there’s anything you need, they’re on hand.
