2026 Update: I had continued to use this cleanser which was transformative to my angry hormonal acne. Sometimes the back to basics skincare really can make all the difference and I love that this is so affordable for the amount you get in one bottle. The Cerave range is so good at helping control blemishes and I recommend it for anyone going through a rough patch with their skin.
I’ve been on a one woman battle to calm my adult acne that flared up at the end of 2022. There seems to be a few factors as to why my skin got so bad, I think a lot of it was down to stress but this aggravated my hormones and therefore made it all ten times worse. I’ve been working through a number of things to help calm my skin down which I want to share on my blog in good time but firstly, I wanted to write about the CeraVe blemish control face cleanser which deserves it’s own post for being a fantastic face wash, and one I wish I had when I was a teenager!

CeraVe Blemish Control Face Wash has been made to help clear and prevent acne breakouts and doesn’t contain the nasty things that usually cause dryness and further breakouts like lots of foaming cleansers can. It contains salicylic acid which helps to unclog the pores and fight breakouts as well as nicinamide which helps tackle spots!
This is a gel to foam cleanser so you just work it together with some water to create a gentle foam to cleanse the skin. I tend to use this as a second cleanser for makeup removal or my first cleanser in the morning. I’ve found it’s worked in unison with my Body Shop Camomile balm cleanser as that is really effective at makeup removal without striping the skin and this cleanser cleans without the dry tight feeling.

I know that this cleanser has really helped with my battle against my acne, especially on my jawline as when I’ve used my balm cleanser on it’s own, it doesn’t do half as good a job as the Blemish Control Cleanser with it. So if you’re like me and struggling to find cleansers or a cleansing routine that works, I highly recommend adding this into the mix, no matter what you use to remove makeup, this would be a perfect second cleanser as it cleans the skin quickly, effectively and without any horrible feeling to the skin. Clean skin doesn’t have to squeak!
You can pick up a bottle of the CeraVe cleanser on Boots.com for £10.50, for some reason it’s a tricky one to get hold of so definitely pick up a bottle when you get the chance! It’s also available on Amazon when it’s in stock which is where I picked it up initially.
