Trying to be inventive with date night ideas and the seemingly unlimited bank holidays we’ve had, I decided to give Burnt Lemon Chef’s a try as they’ve been working tirelessly to bring restaurant quality meals to homes across Northamptonshire. Burnt Lemon have always been one step ahead collaborating with producers and using local produce where possible. When I saw they were working with Johnsons Butchers, my local butcher, I had to get involved.

The Burger Kit
Using H Johnson & Sons meat and their cooking know-how, Burnt Lemon created the ‘Signature Smokey Brisket and Short Rib DIY Burger Box.’ At £15 for two people, this burger kit contains everything you need to have the ultimate BBQ. The kit includes two HUGE short rib burger patties, smoked streaky bacon, smoked cheddar, brioche buns, secret signature sauce and even your salad to go in the bun.
The patties are pretty huge and are brilliant for the BBQ as they keep their shape as well as have minimal shrinkage, which is always a good sign. They smelt incredible being cooked and we used our bbq frying pan for the bacon to get the ultimate crispy rasher.
Once the patties were cooked, we placed the cheddar on top to soften and toasted the buns. Layering it all together was a mean task, I even put the buns on upside down (let’s blame baby brain ok) but once you’ve got everything pre-prepared it makes the whole process even simpler.

Why it was so good?
When it comes to having burgers out, I like to have a burger that ticks all the boxes. A generic beef burger can sometimes be a bit bland without all the added extras. With this burger, the patty itself was made with high quality meat and the mix of brisket and rib meant it actually tasted of meat with great texture rather than just one type of beef.
Of course, being pregnant I couldn’t have this rare but it didn’t really matter as the meat was so tender and soft, it basically melted in your mouth anyway which was a bit of a blessing considering I really miss rare beef. The combination of a brioche with all the trimmings meant this was one of the type of burgers that dripped once you bit in.
The burger sauce comes in it’s own little pot which was delicious, a slight kick but perfect for adding an extra flavour. If you’re missing proper meat dinners and bored of the same old BBQ meats, then give these kits a go. They are perfect for special occasions, hot weather and jazzing up the weekends and even after lockdown, it would be fab to see Burnt Lemon do well for any family occasion or date night. We know we’re already keen to use their private dining offering with our families when this is all over.
Try them for yourself!
Being home and cooking more has meant being inventive and what I loved was the option to cook these from home knowing they’d be tasty too. Burnt Lemon offers meals pre-cooked for home deliveries so alongside this we even added the jerk wings for a fantastic starter. I’m not going to lie, I absolutely devoured them. They were so incredibly tasty.
We added two desserts on to make it a real treat and I thoroughly recommend doing the same. Northamptonshire’s food scene has always been impressive but with Coronavirus it’s shown that supporting your local businesses also can be damn tasty.
