The Goddess Facial at Towcester Clinic

Towcester Skin Clinic Goddess Facial The Beauty Type beauty northampton blog

If you’re looking for a facial that actually provides results – the Goddess Facial is for you. I was recently gifted a facial at the Towcester Clinic in Northamptonshire which was well needed and couldn’t have come at a better time. After a week of alcohol, black tie events and late nights, my skin was suffering for it. So this couldn’t have come at a better time for some R&R and also refresh my skin ready for Winter.

Where is it?

The Towcester Clinic is based in the heart of beautiful Towcester in the ‘Sponne Shopping Centre’ which is a little cut through to beautiful shops, trinkets and independents. The Towcester clinic specialises in many different therapies, skin treatments, massage and facials. I was greeted by a lovely team, each of whom are experts in particular fields. The clinic is set in a characterful building which is cosy and quaint with many treatment rooms.

So what is a Goddess Facial?

The Goddess facial is the ULTIMATE facial – it really does transform your skin and brings it back to the basics. This isn’t like a spa day where you have a essential oil to send you off to sleep, oh no, this treatment leaves you physically glowing but in the best possible way with results that get better with time. Sometimes I have had facials where they make me feel good and leave my skin glowing but the effects are temporary and the experience is more relaxing than big in results. The Goddess Facial changes that – this really does provide results.

Dermaplaning (or retexturing treatment)

To begin the treatment, you have a full exfoliating treatment with either dermaplaning or the AlumierMD retexturing treatment. I went for demaplaning as I have had this before and loved the results. Dermaplaning uses a clean non-invasive treatment to essentially scrape away all the peach fuzz and dead skin on your face. Wether you have a lot of hair or not, this treatment really does remove the top layer away to enhance the next steps.

AlumierMD Radiant 30 Peel

The next step, immediately after, was the chemical peel. This treatment sounds ‘worse’ than it is and actually deep cleans and resurfaces your skin. This takes the dermaplaning effects to the next level and the results of a chemical peel last and last. As you’ve just exfoliated and opened up the skin using the dermaplaning, the chemical peel can feel tingly. However, my therapist Mel went step by step and didn’t proceed to the next part of my face until I was happy with how my skin was feeling. This was really reassuring and helps you manage it at your pace. Whilst it didn’t hurt as such, it’s similar to when you have an open spot and you get a strong toner or product in it so if you’re not good with that level of skincare.

This was one of the main parts of the facial that you could really feel it doing something – which I think is really important when it comes to paying for treatments, I personally appreciate feeling the results happening. This is applied all over the face and left to work it’s magic for a couple of minutes.

Microneedling

Now, this is one treatment I can’t quite believe I’ve been so lucky to try – now I have. I want it ALL the time. This is the ultimate facial experience. Microneedling is essentially using a pen to use gentle needles to penetrate the skin and cause tiny injuries to the skin all in order to stimulate collagen and elastin. It sounds far more terrifying than it is, no blood is involved and it is incredible what it can do.

The Towcester Clinic uses a FDA certified SkinPen which is one of the most safe and effective ways to do microneedling. I was a little apprehensive of this treatment, anything needle based can sound scary but I was put to ease and it was actually easier to get through than I thought. The pen is powered to run across the skin with a gel to work on every element of your face. Whilst it’s not super relaxing, it’s not painful and reminds me of a pain level of say waxing.

I feel like pointing out that if you have things to do with the rest of your day or an event the next day then don’t do the microneedling – you will leave looking like you’ve had sunburn. You will be VERY red afterwards where the treatment was done and this lasts around 24 hours. I was given a gel to use to keep my face soft and happy though! This has probably provided the best results of all the treatments.

Déesse Pro LED light therapy

To finish and calm the skin, a LED light mask was applied that looks creepy but is a great scientific treatment. Using LED light therapy, this treatment calms the skin and helps to improve problematic skin conditions. You can’t feel this working but I’m sure it helped calm the skin following the microneedling.

Aftermath

My skin was red following the treatment and this lasted around 24 hours. I had no pain or issues but had to avoid using any skincare products that evening. The next day my skin was SO smooth, it was extremely clear and the spots that were large the day of the treatment had greatly reduced in 12 hours. My skin was a slight bit tender but nothing to worry about and it subsided quickly. It felt SO clean and so easy to apply makeup too. In the last week, following my treatment, my skin appears to be looking the clearest it has in years, I’ve had a couple of pimples come out but I think sometimes your skin purges before it is officially clear too.

At £199 this isn’t the cheapest facial but it’s 100% worth every penny for the results and products used. There is also a £99 option which doesn’t include microneedling. Whilst it doesn’t have the ‘calming, soothing, relaxation’ notion that spa like facials has, it has results and that’s what we all want isn’t it. I already want to look into regular peels more often!
