I don’t think there’s many beauty products I can safely say I’ve used for more than a few years. Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish hot cloth facial cleanser has been the only one I’ve used time and time again over seven years. I didn’t realise it had been that long until I added it up and whilst I reviewed the cleanser many moons ago, I think it’s worth reminding my readers why it really is the best cleanser on the uk skincare market.
What is it?
If you’ve been under a rock, then Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanse and Polish is a cream cleanser which is applied to the skin day and night to remove dirt, impurities and makeup. You always receive a muslin cloth with your cleanse and polish to buff the cleanser away. The cleanser is applied to dry skin and can remove full faces of makeup, including heavy eye makeup. The ‘hot cloth’ element is found by ringing the muslin cloth in fairly hot/warm water before removing the cream away.
What makes it so great?
Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser is the fantastic 3 in 1 option for facial skincare. The cream is so delicate that it doesn’t irritate any skin types. I find I could rub this into my eyes and it wouldn’t even cause an issue, perfect for heavy mascara. It removes all of my makeup and leaves it feeling clean every time.
I have used other cleansers and will always try new cleansers, but I find that I gravitate back to Liz Earle for makeup removal. Whilst I love the clean feeling of a foam cleanser and balms, I feel that Liz Earle should always be that first step. The cloth allows you to wipe away without water dripping down your arm or crazy amounts of cotton wool.
Sometimes if I fancy trying a new cleanser, I will use Liz Earle to remove most of my makeup/impurities and then use another product as a second cleanse. Whilst I don’t do this everyday, it works nicely with any other cleanser.
What skin types is it good for?
I have combination skin where my cheeks tend to be dry with my T-Zone often suffering with blemishes. This cream cleanser provides the right kind of moisture into the skin whilst cleansing the skin enough for my oily side. I find foam cleansers can strip my skin too much and bring more blemishes out so this cleanser allows for a happy medium for both skin issues.
I would also say any normal, oily or sensitive skins would benefit from this cleanser as it keeps your skin calm and happy and whilst it doesn’t proclaim any miracle saving qualities, it keeps your skin happy and clear as much as it can.
Is it an everyday exfoliator?
Whilst it’s called cleanse and polish, I wouldn’t say I feel like I’m exfoliating everyday. The muslin cloth provides a good surface to buff away makeup and dirt but I wouldn’t say it’s scrubbing or harsh in anyway. Muslins are used for babies after all!
Sometimes I use a flannel instead to remove this which works just as well so the cleanser itself is the big show stopper here.
How to try it?
You can pick up small travel sizes of Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish as well as larger sizes from many outlets. I like to get mine from either Boots or QVC who often have deals on. You can pick up the original size here which includes the cloth. I find that a 100ml tub lasts me over a month with everyday use but the 200ml versions tend to last a touch longer only because you can choose how much you want to use as it’s a tube rather than a pump.
