Beauty Pie has been a hot topic in the beauty world for the last two years (as ever I’m well behind trying) but I love a beauty subscription or beauty box. Ordering from Beauty Pie has been on my to-do list for a while but I didn’t know where to begin, if it was too good to be true or when was the right time to top up my collection. There’s been no better time to enjoy new skincare than during the lockdown, it feels like every product I own has decided to run out but then normally I’d happily top them up during shopping trips over the last three months.
How does Beauty Pie work?
So unlike ordering from a normal shop, Beauty Pie works by subscriptions at a cost per month that then entitles you to a spending limit. This spending limit then equates to ‘retail/normal/typical’ prices of what their products would be worth if it was in a store. Beauty Pie offers it’s products cheaper than most skincare brands due to the subscription element. You only pay the cheaper costs but the limit you have left is calculated with the retail cost. Generally though, unless you’re a massive spender you probably won’t hit that limit each month and can always wait until the next renewal date to buy again.
So for example, if you sign up for the £10 a month package, you’ll receive £100 spending limit. If you were to buy a product that has a ‘typical’ price of £50, this would then leave you with £50 in your spending limit BUT you only pay £10.62 etc for that actual product.
Sounds more complicated than it is but generally if you’re looking to spend anywhere between £10-£50 a month on skincare, candles or makeup and try some new pieces, you’ll rarely hit your limit.
How is Beauty Pie cheaper than most brands?
The joy of Beauty Pie is its transparency to product creation. For example it acknowledges it has no shop front, no middle men, it has to do testing and fulfilment and there’s no celebrity marketing. Due to the savings made here, they can afford to give you the products at the best possible price. Two years ago when Beauty Pie began you could even get lipglosses for around the £2-3 mark, naturally these prices have increased over that time but there’s still bargains to be had.
The brand has been created by the founder of popular and successful skincare brands Bliss, Remede, Soap and Glory and Soaper Duper so you know you’re in good hands.
My first order and my thoughts!
As it was my first order I was unsure where to begin however I knew I needed a replacement for my Hyaluronic acid and my skin was having a bit of a mare with hormones and lockdown so I wanted to try a new cleanser.
I had heard great things about the Japanfusion range, mostly through Caroline Hirons (ultimate skincare queen) who has mentioned the Japanfusion pure transforming cleanser many times. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this cleanser but it’s well worth the rave reviews. You apply to dry skin which then has a fantastic formula to turn into an oil, its great for makeup removal and getting mascara off too. Then with water you wash away and it turns into a milky consistency. This made my skin feel super clean on the first use so I’m looking forward to seeing how I get on with this cleanser. It only cost me £7.21 (typical price:£25).
Next, was the Superdrops High Intensity Hydration Serum. This is worth £50 but you only pay £11! I wanted to repurchase my Vichy 89 Serum anyway so this was a good alternative to try. I LOVE hyaluronic acid, it really is a game changer for skincare and whilst doesn’t seem obvious at first what it can do, the long term effects are amazing. This keeps your skin super hydrated, soothed and firm. I use this morning and night before my SPF or night cream to give my products an extra boost. Hopefully this can be an alternative to the Vichy 89 (as much as I LOVED that serum too!)
I also picked up a couple of makeup items just to see what the options were! The Wondercolour Longwear Cream Shadow Stick has been a beautiful addition to my makeup bag and is SO easy to use. You just draw on and blend with your finger. I do find these are a touch sticky on the eyelid so try to go light with application but they don’t budge or move throughout the day.
The one product I’m not fully sold on is the One Powder Wonder which is a white translucent face powder for setting makeup. It’s said to blur lines, pores and just give a lovely finish to the face but I’m yet to see the wow about this powder yet. However, I think when I do a proper full face of makeup that needs to last a day, I’ll see whether this is worth the spend over the next few months and report back.
I am so far very happy with my order. It doesn’t feel like a ploy, there’s some genuinely great products here that have been crafted to have a specific purpose. Back when ELF was a big name and all about cheap products, it was fun to collect but the products were so cheap they were pretty naff, this seems different. There’s genuine value but also fantastic products and I definitely think the skincare and makeup will be something I make my way through over the coming months.
